FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED SINCE 1912

Mary C. (Tena) Blackwelder

Mary C. (Tena) Blackwelder, age 86, of West Grove, PA passed away on November 16, 2018 at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community. She passed peacefully in the way she always wanted - at home holding the hand of her beloved.

Born in Clinton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Owens) and Arthur Davis. While Tena worked part-time in the office at A.I. DuPont Middle School and the Newark Department Store, she was most proud of the work she did as a homemaker raising her five boys. Fond memories of her Christmas Eve dinners will always be treasured. Tena also volunteered as a buyer for the Gift Shop on the Junior Board at St. Francis Hospital and at the Jenner’s Pond Herron’s Nest. She once was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling. More recently, she enjoyed spending her time reading and knitting. Tena was well liked and much loved, a woman with a warm heart whose favorite pastime was being a loving wife, grandmother and great grandmother. We will forever miss her.

Tena is survived by her loving husband of almost 70 years, Herbert V. Blackwelder, Sr.; her sons and their spouses: Herbert V., Jr. and Kathleen of Avondale, PA; Ralph B. and Lisa of Young Harris, GA; Barrett O. and Elizabeth of Wilmington, DE; Robert B. and Yolanda of Chula Vista, CA; and, Bradley D. and Kimberly of Landenberg, PA; her sister, Carolyn Heaton (Walter) of Clinton, SC; her brother, Maxie Davis (Margie) of Whigham, GA; her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff and nurses of Willow Tree Hospice. Funeral services will be private. Online condolences may be made at mealeyfuneralhomes.com

Dear Uncle Bud & "Boys", So saddened to hear of Aunt Tena's passing. Christine and I had been planning a trip up after the first of the year so I could see her. She brightened my heart and my life with her infectious joy for life, and with her laughter. She was truly one of a kind that more people in life should strive to be like. My memories of childhood include so many wonderful memories of the visits we had with all the family in Clinton at Christmas and in the summertime. Our hearts and prayers are with you all in the coming days. May the peace that can only come from our Heavenly Father be with you today and always. Tammy (Boys: You'll have to know is said in love as that's what we always reviewed to them when they visited. Plus, no matter their ages they always acted up just like boys will.) Love each of you and miss you all very much.
