Spinken, Eleanor A. (Swift),

Age 91 0f Hockessin, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Seasons Hospice in Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Spinken was born in 1925. She retired from the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in 1988 after 10 years where she was an Administrative Assistant.  There she served as Secretary of the Women’s Auxiliary for 10 years and Vice President for one year.  Mrs. Spinken also worked at the New Castle County Board of Realtors for 8 years. 

She was very active in the Catholic church, was a long-time member at Our Lady of Fatima, St. Joseph’s in Middletown, and St. Matthews.   Over the years, Mrs. Spinken was a Sodality member, served as a Lector, served or chaired many committees and was a long time Girl Scout. Leader.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted living for all of their compassionate care for their mother over the past five years.

In addition to her parents and her siblings, Mrs. Spinken was predeceased in death by her husband, Edward Spinken and daughter Ellen Spinken.

She leaves cherished memories to her children and their spouses, Frederick and Sandra Spinken of Newark, Eileen and Denny Wierzbicki of New Castle, Joan Spinken and her partner Joe Cordero of Wilmington, Lillian Spinken and Jan Wise of Durham, NC; and her five grandchildren, Kelly, Jessica, David, Jason and Rachel; five great grandchildren, Andrew, Jasmine, Cameron, Ava, and Cecelia.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm followed by prayer service at 7:00 pm at Mealey Funeral Homes, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, DE.  Interment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE on June 27, 2017 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.
