FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED SINCE 1912

Daniel Francis Thomas

Daniel Francis Thomas, age 58 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Born in Wilmington, DE on August 6, 1961, Danny lived most of his life in Wilmington except for a few years in Chadds Ford, PA.  For most of his working years, he was a longshoreman at the Port of Wilmington.

If you knew Danny, you’d know that he loved his large family, old movies, music and animals.  His precious cat, Babydoll, held a special place in his heart and delighted Danny daily these past few years.  A gifted guitar and piano player, Danny was also quite the character.  While he had his struggles, he loved life, had a good heart, and enjoyed talking to everyone he ever met.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Mary Alice and James Thomas, Sr. of Wilmington; his son, Zachary Doire of Rhode Island; his sisters, Mary of Wilmington, Jane of Raleigh, NC, and Peggy of Chadds Ford, PA; his brothers, Jim, Jr. (Margaret) and Peter, both of Wilmington, Fred of Boise, ID; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his beloved aunt, “AJ” (Geraldine Kenneally).

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Finelli for his kind and dedicated care.

Funeral services will be private.  Should friends so desire, contributions in memory of Danny may be made to the Delaware Humane Society at 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or online at DelawareHumane.org.  Online condolences may be made by visiting MealeyFuneralHomes.com.

Danny's family, so sorry for your loss. I've known Danny for 32 plus years, haven't seen him for many...but Danny was a good, generous and very nice friend. I remember many times listening to him play piano and hanging out at the pool at his parents home. Danny was a fan of Keith Richards and I also enjoyed hearing him play guitar, I know he struggled with demons for a very long time, but underneath all that, he was a sweet person, so sorry for the family's loss and may you finally find comfort knowing he's with Jesus and happy with no hang ups, hardships, or worries anymore. May peace be with you at this time. Sincerely, Jennifer (Warren)Bendistis.

Mr. & Mrs. Thomas and Family, so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Daniel very well but I remember him being serious but funny at the same time. May he rest in peace.

Dear Thomas Family, For me, since approximately 1970, I have really had two families: Pete and June, then, all of you. Danny had many tough acts to follow, in one of the most confusing, fun, dramatic, and faithfully friendly families in Delaware history. Danny held his own, the best he could, and I now lament that I did not get to know him better. Rest In peace Danny.

My late teenage and young adult life was full of experiences with Danny. His energetic personality was contagious and enigmatic. Danny facilitated me entering the Red Oak Rd home for a BLT, a basketball game or a swim. He was the wagging tail of the Thomas family; happy yet sometimes knocking that vase from the coffee table to someone’s disappointment. Kind and meaning well but judgmentally challenged are times, I related to him. RIP friend.
