
William J. Gantz, 83 of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 17, 2018.
He was born on October 8, 1934 in Nesquehoning, PA and was raised and schooled in Shenandoah, PA, graduating in 1952 from the West Mahanoy Township High School. Bill worked at General Motors for 9 years as an assembler and specification engineer. He also worked for the DuPont Company at the Chambers Works for 31 years as a chemical technician and an instructor for performance management and 10 years in the Election Department.
Bill and his late wife, Helene (Subach) Gantz traveled through Europe, the United States parks and the Canadian Rockies. He cruised the Caribbean each winter for two weeks. Helene passed away in 2011.
Bill was a member of St. Johns/Holy Angels Parish, the Newark Senior Center and formerly the Men’s Club of St. Catherine of Siena. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Curtis Council, where he was a past deputy Grand Knight.
Bill is survived by his sisters, Joan Gantz of Glen Burnie, MD and Barbara Gergal of Levittown, PA; his niece, Maria Gergal; his nephew, Robert Gergal and his wife, Ann; his great nephews, Joseph Heller and Robert Gergal, Jr. and many extended nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11 AM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, where friends may call after 10 AM. Burial will take place on Thursday morning at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Shenandoah, PA.
