
Mary Allan Van Aken, age 74, of Hockessin, DE passed away surrounded by her family on September 18th, 2018.
Born in Bentleyville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Josephine (Gurriel) and George Roberts. She was a graduate of Bishop Egan High School and Penn State University. She worked as a Research Technician at DuPont for over 25 years prior to her retirement in 2012. Mary Allan was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold L. Van Aken, Jr. in 2002. Throughout her life, Mary Allan treasured spending time with her family, was an avid reader, enjoyed walking, visiting Longwood Gardens and remained strong in her Catholic Faith.
Mary Allan is survived by her children, Thomas (Deanna) Van Aken, Cindy (Ron) Loeber, Susan (Merle) Brann, Sandy Van Aken, Sarah (Jeff) DiMedio and Adam Van Aken; her grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Jacob, Madelynn, Joshua and Dylan; her sisters, Josephine Roberts and Elizabeth Blinn (Rich); her brother, Dr. George Roberts (MaryAnn); her sister-in-law, Alice Poyta (David); and her uncle, Andy Gurriel (Ada).
A visitation will be held on Sunday September 23, 2018 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday September 24, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE 19707. Burial will follow at Hockessin Friends Cemetery, Hockessin, DE 19707.
