Age 90, of Wilmington, DE was called to heaven by our dear Lord on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
Born in East Goshen Township, PA, Marie was the daughter of the late William and Lillian (Roberts) Ammann. She was predeceased by her first husband of 34 years, Marvin Johnson, her second husband of 24 years, Charles Wagner, her beloved son, Richard “Rick” Johnson, her daughter-in-law, Denise Finley Johnson, and her sisters, Helen Jackson and Dorothea Gallagher.
Mom will be greatly missed by her children who loved her dearly, son and daughter-in-law, Mark “Micky” and Donna Johnson of West Dundee, IL and daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne “Jeany” and Michael Tunell of Newark, DE. She is also survived by five grandchildren whom she absolutely adored as they did their Gramee. They are Kristin Chuman and her husband, Paolo, Kathryn Tunell, Michael Tunell, Jr., Matthew Johnson and Ryan Johnson. She idolized her two great grandchildren, Jacob Chuman and Sophia Tunell.
As a young woman, Marie worked for Bell Telephone and Wyeth Labs in West Chester, PA. After moving to Delaware and doing an awesome job raising three children, she enjoyed being a librarian at St. John the Beloved, Marshallton and Marbrook schools. Many of her retirement years were spent in Victorville, CA, which she thoroughly enjoyed and made many dear friends.
Marie was a member of St. John the Beloved Church where she was active in The Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was a longtime member of the Millcreek Century Club, served as a Cub Scout den mother and was founder and coach of the first Cheerleading Squad at St. John the Beloved School. She loved singing, crocheting, bowling, ice skating and creating beautiful cards for her family and friends. She never missed one of her children’s many sporting events and was always cheering them on. She was present at every graduation and many special events for all of her grandchildren. She taught her children the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
Special thank yous are extended to Dr. Manthodi Faisal, Dr. Carlos Reyes, and Dr. Gilbert Leidig for their great care and to the wonderful and compassionate staff members at both the Summit in Hockessin and Sunrise in Wilmington. An extra special thank you goes out to Ms. Eleanor Parker, her devoted caregiver, who she was blessed to have by her side.
