John J. O’Brien,

John J. O’Brien, age 90, of Hockessin, DE passed away on Tuesday July 31st, 2018.

Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Mary (McArdle) and James O’Brien. He graduated from Fordham University in 1952. John worked as a corporate accountant prior to his retirement from Allied Chemical in 1989. He was very active at his parish, St. John the Beloved Church, as a trustee, eucharistic minister and usher for many years. John also served on the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington School Board. John was predeceased by his loving wife of over 64 years, Irene O’Brien in 2016. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Catherine O’Malley and Mary O’Brien.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathleen and Timothy O’Donnell of Newark, DE, Kevin and Kathy O’Brien of Philadelphia, PA, and Gerard and Holly O’Brien of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Brendan, Sean, Daniel, Colin, Erin, Corinne, Colman, and Celeste; and his great grandson, Evan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 3rd, 2018 at 11 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family are invited to a visitation after 10AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. John the Beloved Church at the above address. Online condolences may be made at
