G. Howard Stike, Jr.

Age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 with his loving wife at his side.

Born in Wilmington, Howard was the son of the late Margaret Ellen (Armstrong) and George Howard Stike. He was a graduate of A. I. DuPont High School, the Spring Garden Institute of Technology and the University of Delaware. He served his country proudly in the Delaware Air National Guard from 1965 to 1972, retiring as Staff Sergeant. For over 40 years, he worked for the DuPont Company as an electrical engineer in Niagara Falls, NY, Corpus Christi, TX and Wilmington, DE. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Stike and his sister, Lois Miller.

Howard will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Brenda “Bunny” (McNutt) Stike; his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Stan Jarman of Middletown; his sister-in-law whom he loved as a daughter, Kelly Anne Donahue and her husband, Philip, and his special “grandchildren” Philip and Patricia; and in-laws, Bernard Sullivan, Eleanor Morris, Lawrence McNutt (and his wife, Judy), Mary Pat DeLuca and a host of nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by Hunter, his beloved Golden Retriever.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, May 1st between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

The family would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of his doctors, Mart Amick, Frank Beardell, and John Reinhardt and their respective staffs; and his nurse, Lindsay, at Christiana Medical ICU. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Operation Homefront, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 W 10th St #209, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Brenda- my heart is broken for you. I am so sorry I can’t be there on Tuesday or Wednesday as I am out of town. But please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I worked with Howard at the Dupont Niagara Falls plant. He was a friend, a fine man and a gentleman & my condolences on your loss!!

Bunny, We live in North Carolina now and we are unable to attend the service tomorrow as we just heard of this news today. We send you our love with so many fond memories Howard. We will be thinking of you and the family while we pray for you all.

Bunny-my condolences to you and your family on your loss. I worked with Howard at the Niagara Falls plant, and have many fond memories of those days. He was a great colleague and friend, and will certainly be missed.

Dear Bunny, John and I were so sorry to hear of Howard's passing. We will always remember his generous spirit and welcoming smile. He was always so kind to us; we have wonderful memories of great conversations and family get-togethers you hosted. I am so sorry for your loss. Death can be so hard to bear. But the memories of your loved one that you shared can bring comfort and so can the words from a loving father at..
